Hi, was curious could you replace egg nog for the buttermilk in your buttermilk pie recipe?

Thanks

Ohhhhh hmmm. I'm inclined to say no, depending on the egg nog (many questions come to mind: does it have actual eggs? how does this change the custard? how much sugar is in it? should you reduce the amount in the recipe? stabilizers? is there cornstarch or guar gum? if so, how will this change the structure?). BUT, I also LOVE this game and kind of thinking and there is only one true way to find out. I would start by looking at the ingredients of the eggnog, prioritize thinking about the sugar content first, because that will be the first (and most likely) problem. This is already a pretty sweet pie. So, my advice: adjust your sugar and give it a whirl! Take notes and try again if it feels like it's got potential! Let me know how it goes!

Absolutely going to have to check this book out - I love eating at gas stations in the South. I’ve had a lot of great bites on road trips, like the iconic chicken on a stick in Oxford, Mississippi, plus boudin, pimento cheese, and other treats along the way. Thanks for the rec!
